It's just what I wanted. As the closer of this latest Nintendo Direct, Xenoblade Chronicles 3 completes the trilogy right on the same platform that saw Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in 2017, Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition in 2020, and will see this third installment in September 2022. According to Executive Director Tetsuya Takahashi, this was the plan all along in fact, the key visual for Xenoblade Chronicles 3 was conceived "between the end of development of Xenoblade Chronicles and the beginning of development of Xenoblade Chronicles 2." What's more, he describes the game as "a new adventure bringing together the worlds of Xenoblade Chronicles and Xenoblade Chronicles 2," positioning it as the culmination of everything canon in the mainline Xenoblade games, a must-play for lovers of the first two titles, and an entry point for anyone wanting to play the newest entry before choosing to enjoy its prequels.
