Last weekend, a member of my family who is an entrepreneur reminded me of a vision I had seven years ago when I was just starting NintendObserver which eventually came through. At the time in 2014, though wireless headphones were starting to be a trend, wireless earphones didn’t really exist, but since I loved listening to music so much I already imagined them as the logical next step. Now, earpieces that do not need to be physically connected to a device to play sound are absolutely everywhere. That was a great business opportunity I wasn’t a part of, my only contribution being nothing more than an enveloppe Soleau, a legal timestamp proving I did have the idea, but which was merely a poorly drawn prototype.
A year or two later, another revolution was set in motion, and this time I was much closer to its developments. That one was Discord, the number one social network in all of gaming, which is now a major player in any kind of online discussions. Back then when the platform was still nascent, through playing on Wii U with friends I became familiar with its format — thank you Michael — and entirely recreated Miiverse on it, Nintendo’s late social network, as a way to expand my website. Indeed, Miiverse and Discord utilized the same URL nomenclature of servers and channels, and since Discord wasn’t yet limiting channels per servers to 500, this endeavor was actually a possibility. So this time I had more than the idea of a prototype, I had an actual prototype that worked. But I couldn’t capitalize on Discord’s explosive growth, couldn’t take this opportunity to replace Miiverse for millions of players once Nintendo irremediably killed it, all because even though I had something tangible, nobody knew it existed.
That was then, and this is now, and now is calling for a third vision of my own which this time I will not let slip by. Today’s big changer in the field that I’m in is Substack, the specific platform on which I write this article. At this very moment, I have the idea just like the first time with wireless earphones, the prototype just like the second time with Discord, and for the first time ever, irrefutable credentials. After nearly a year of hard work effectively posting a new article every single day on Substack, and fueled by the first sizeable investment I have ever made as an entrepreneur, NintendObs Dailies stands as Substack’s number one newsletter on Nintendo, and Substack’s number one newsletter on videogames.
