NintendObs Daily. Tuesday, April 26.
Just a tweet is all it took. Shigeru Miyamoto announced via Nintendo's Twitter accounts that, after discussing with Founder and CEO of Illumination Chris Meledandri, the Mario movie will now be releasing next year on April 7 in North America, April 28 in Japan and some time during April 2023 in Europe. Since last September's Nintendo Direct, the film was expected to launch on December 21, 2022 in North America and during the 2022 holiday season worldwide. It's also worth reminding that Chris Meledandri isn't just heading the Super Mario movie project on the Illumination side — this being a partnership between Nintendo, Illumination and Universal Pictures — he also became one of the six members of Nintendo's board of directors in 2021 as an "independent and non-executive outside director."
