It is now official: Japan belongs to Nintendo.
The thirty best-selling videogames for the last recorded week so far in the Japanese market are all on Nintendo Switch.
NintendObs Daily. Monday, August 16.
It is true, it is undeniable. The Famitsu Top 30 for the week of Monday, August 2, 2021 to Sunday, August 8, 2021 has spoken. For the first time ever, the thirty best-selling videogames for the last recorded week so far in the Japanese market are all on Nintendo Switch, and I could guarantee this is a first for any videogame console ever since these numbers were tracked. That means there's not a single Xbox title in these charts, a regular happening for years already, and now not a single PlayStation title charting either in Sony's own homeland. For the longest time PlayStation 4 titles would hang in there week by week, with only four titles the week prior and all of them being brand-new, but starting with this last recorded week by Famitsu, the Japanese videogame market is posed to be only Nintendo Switch moving forward.
