NintendObs Asks: David Whitaker on Black tar and the return of Xenoblade Chronicles X.
"I can only answer, let's see what happens." A NintendObs Dailies exclusive interview.
Luther from NintendObs Dailies:
To my knowledge, Black tar is one of Hiroyuki Sawano's first and few male vocals duo, and I believe it is also the very first male duo you've ever worked on with him. I find this combination to be very suitable for a videogame's main battle theme. So the first question I want to ask is, how did you become involved in the project of the Xenoblade Chronicles X soundtrack, and how did you become involved in such an important and dare I say iconic track of the game in Black tar?
David Whitaker:
This was the first male vocals duo track, it was at least mine with Sawano. Because of mpi, I have been working with Sawano on projects since his first solo project in 2009. Melancholia, which is also on the Xenoblade Chronicles X soundtrack, was actually the first song I recorded with Sawano, and the first song I've recorded with Sawano and Aimee. I didn't know it was going to be on the soundtrack until after. A very happy surprise.
Since I always look forward to writing and recording with Sawano's team, it was an opportunity that I was more than happy to be available for.
