Comparing Pokémon and Shin Megami's Japanese successes.

Or rather they cannot even compare. Shin Megami Tensei V had a pretty good launch last week in Japan with opening sales of 143,247 units. It's not everyday titles that aren't profusedly recognized get to produce six figures at launch in the country, which is even more commendable given that the game ranked at #4 the week after, adding an extra 20K+ units and proving demonstrable staying power. That's all cute and all but entered Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Pokémon Shining Pearl with its 1,395,642 units opening, effectively selling tenfold in same amount of time. Some franchises are just more popular than others. Upon a closer look, Nintendo Switch – OLED Model was actually the best-selling Nintendo Switch console that same week. Meanwhile, PlayStation 5 is having such a hard time in its homeland that it now competes four digits a week in the league of the Xbox brand long forsaken by Japanese players.
