Looking at 35 years of the Metroid saga.
I do remember from my experience with Metroid Zero Mission that the feeling of dread is indeed very real.
NintendObs Daily. Monday, August 9.
Just last Friday marked the 35th anniversary of the launch of the original Metroid game in Japan on August 6, 1986. Nintendo's Metroid website naturally celebrated its birthday with a new Metroid Dread Report, looking at each of the four mainline 2D Metroid games and their contribution to the legacy, before letting out a sneak peek at the Metroid 5 that is Metroid Dread. It's kinda funny how the 2D Metroid series went back and forth between home and handheld consoles (NES, GB, SNES, GBA) and is now landing on a hardware that encompasses both functionalities. The report also explains the etymology behind the word "Metroid," which the best way I can understand it was originally meant to express an underground artificial lifeform.
